Headnoted checks whether search engines such as Google and Bing can crawl, index and understand a page on your website, and tells you in plain English what to fix if they can't. This work is usually called search engine optimisation, or SEO.
What the Free Check Does
- 1 Enter the address of any page on the homepage - no account needed
- 2 We read the page as your server sends it, without running JavaScript, and check your robots.txt and XML sitemap
- 3 You get a score out of 100, a grade, every check explained, and your top fixes ranked by impact
- 4 Download the report as a PDF or share it by link
What It Checks
- Crawling and indexing - whether the page is reachable, whether robots.txt lets Googlebot and Bingbot in, whether a noindex hides it, whether the text is in the HTML, and whether you have an XML sitemap
- Titles and metadata - the page title, meta description, canonical URL and social preview (Open Graph) tags
- Headings and content - one clear H1, subheadings, a title and H1 about the same topic, content depth, internal links and image alt text
- Structured data - valid JSON-LD that says who you are, schema for the type of page, and breadcrumbs
- Technical and mobile - HTTPS, a mobile viewport, server response time and a declared language
- Trust and freshness - who wrote or publishes the page, when it was published or updated, and links to your sources
The Extensive Audit
From any finished report you can run an extensive SEO audit for a one-off £1.99. It crawls up to 20 pages of your site, finds site-wide problems such as duplicate titles and broken pages, and turns every issue into a fix - ranked by severity, with the pages affected, the steps, ready-made code and a prompt to paste into your AI assistant. It also gives you a ready-to-publish XML sitemap and Organization and WebSite structured data. The offer on your report lists exactly what is included.
If you audit often, Headnoted Pro includes up to 10 extensive audits a month for £4.99, and you can cancel any time.
SEO or GEO?
SEO is about being found in search engine results. GEO - generative engine optimisation - is about being found and cited by AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. The two overlap, but they are checked differently. Headnoted checks SEO. Our sister tool, Footnoted, checks GEO. It is a separate product with its own accounts and its own pricing: an account or a Headnoted Pro subscription here does not cover Footnoted.
No Promises About Rankings
Nobody can promise a position on Google. Search engines weigh many signals Headnoted cannot see, such as links from other sites, competition and what searchers are looking for. Headnoted checks the on-page and technical signals you control, and points you at the fixes that matter most.
