Put a clear headnote on every page.

A headnote is the short summary at the top of a page that tells a reader what it is about. Search engines need the same thing from yours. We built Headnoted to help ordinary websites give it to them.

Why Headnoted exists

We built an SEO checker for our own use. When we saw what other tools charged, we decided to make our first check free.

Enter a URL to spot crawler blocks, noindex tags, weak titles and descriptions, missing structured data and pages that are hard to read on a phone. You get a score and clear fixes to work through yourself or share with a developer.

Need more detail? The optional extensive audit checks up to 20 pages and gives you a prompt for every fix. See the paid options.

How we work

No guarantees we can't keep

Nobody controls where a page ranks. We tell you what is in your way and how to fix it, and we say plainly that a good score is not a promise.

Plain English

Every check says what we found and what to do about it, in words you can forward to a developer or a client without translating.

Free where it counts

The check that tells you whether search engines can crawl and index your page is free, with no account. The extensive audit is a single payment; a monthly plan is there only if you audit often.

Polite crawling

We identify our crawler, read only public pages, and our extensive-audit crawl obeys your robots.txt.

Your reports are yours

Share them, download them, switch sharing off or delete them. Reports are kept out of search engines.

Kept up to date

Search engines and the signals they use change. We update the checks as they publish new guidance.
