Every report gives the page a score out of 100, a letter grade, a score for each of six categories, and a list of fixes ranked by how much each one holds you back.
How the Score Works
Each check is worth a number of points. Your score is the points you earned as a share of the points available, rounded to a whole number. Checks that decide whether a search engine can crawl and index the page at all - Googlebot and Bingbot access, noindex and whether the page can be reached - are worth the most; polish such as social preview tags and breadcrumbs is worth the least.
- A - 90 and above
- B - 75 to 89
- C - 60 to 74
- D - 40 to 59
- F - below 40
The Six Categories
- Crawling and indexing - the page is reachable, robots.txt lets Googlebot and Bingbot in (other search engines only warn), there is no noindex, the text is readable without JavaScript, and an XML sitemap exists
- Titles and metadata - a title of 30 to 60 characters, a meta description of 70 to 160 characters, a canonical URL and social preview (Open Graph) tags
- Headings and content - one H1, H2 and H3 subheadings, a title and H1 about the same topic, enough content to answer the search, internal links and image alt text
- Structured data - valid JSON-LD, Organization or WebSite schema, schema for the type of page that can be eligible for rich results, and breadcrumbs
- Technical and mobile - HTTPS, a mobile viewport, how fast the server responds and a declared language
- Trust and freshness - an author or publisher, a published or updated date, and links to sources
Pass, Improve, Fix and Not Checked
- Pass - full points
- Improve - partly there, or a recommendation rather than a problem
- Fix - something is missing or wrong
- Not checked - we could not read the page, or the check did not apply, so it does not count either way
Every check that is not a pass shows what we found and how to fix it.
Fix These First
The "Fix these first" list shows up to five fixes, ordered by impact and by how many points each would win back. Start at the top.
Re-Check After Each Fix
Signed in, the Re-scan button on a report checks the same address again as a new report, so you can see the score move.
A Score Is Not a Ranking
The score measures the signals one page shows us. It does not measure or predict your position on Google or Bing, which also depends on links from other sites, competition and what searchers want. The response-time check measures how long your page took to reach our server, so it can vary with network conditions.
